Social Media Specialist

Position Summary:

Vanguard University seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented Social Media Specialist to join its University Marketing team. This position plays a vital role in elevating the university's digital presence, engaging diverse audiences, and strengthening Vanguard's brand across social platforms.

The ideal candidate is creative, strategic, highly organized, and fluent in social media tools and trends. This role requires excellent communication skills, an eye for storytelling, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The Social Media Specialist reports to the Assistant Marketing Manager.

Essential Functions:

• Develop and produce engaging content that aligns with Vanguard's voice, values, and brand guidelines.

• Curate, schedule, and edit posts across university-owned social platforms, ensuring consistency and quality.

• Manage and prioritize submissions from internal constituents via the social media request form, providing technical support as needed.

• Lead content planning and calendar development to support institutional campaigns, events, and strategic goals.

• Collaborate with departments, student organizations, and student leaders to highlight campus life and amplify university-wide initiatives.

• Monitor analytics and performance metrics to refine strategies and support web and SEO performance.

• Support real-time content needs, including crisis communication and live event coverage.

• Stay current with platform updates, digital engagement trends, and higher education best practices.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, digital media, communications, English, or a related field.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Self-starter with a collaborative spirit and high attention to detail.

• Knowledge and acceptance of the mission, values, and community standards of Vanguard University.

• Must be able to present a digital portfolio showcasing recent content work (link or PDF).

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1-2 years of experience in content creation, social media strategy, or project management for creative teams (preferred).

• Excellent writing and proofreading skills; portfolio strongly encouraged.

• Extensive proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Rush).

• Experience with Sprout Social, Meta Business Suite, or other social media management tools is a plus.

• Understanding of social media trends, platform algorithms, and audience engagement strategies.

Salary:

This is a full-time position. $20.00 to $25.00 (Hourly) Salary is commensurate with education and experience and includes a generous benefits package.
